Anna Hess is a violinist and music teacher in Lexington, Kentucky. Anna graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Music in violin performance and has recently returned to UK in pursuit of a music education degree. As a member of the UK Symphony Orchestra, she has taken part in numerous performances including a concert at Carnegie Hall and a concert tour of China in the spring of 2013. She now serves as concertmaster of the university’s newest symphony, the UK Philharmonia. In addition to performing in the collegiate setting, Anna frequently appears on the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour and is an independent contractor with the Lexington Philharmonic.
Anna believes that all children should have the opportunity to study music, and in recent years her passion for performing has expanded to include teaching. During her years away from UK, she maintained a private violin studio and was an orchestra director in the public school system. In addition to teaching private lessons, Anna is an instructor at the Central Music Academy and is thrilled to be a teaching artist with Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra’s newest program, NoLi MusicWorks.
