Joseph Adams is a native of Lexington, Kentucky who earned a BA in Music from the University of Kentucky in May 2010. He started out playing trumpet in the 5th grade eventually transitioning to clarinet and various other woodwind instruments. His primary instrument during college was the bassoon and he studied under Lexington Philharmonic Bassoonists Matthew Schuller and Professor Peter Simpson of the University of Kentucky. While studying bassoon, Joe participated in many different ensembles including the UK Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, and the Wind Ensemble. He also spent time developing a proficient working knowledge of the flute, oboe, clarinet, and saxophone through private lessons, ensembles, and classes while in college. Among the long lists of performances and music opportunities during his college experience Joe participated in an ensemble commissioned by the People’s Republic of China to play in an intercultural music festival in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. Along with teaching private lessons and continuing to develop his interest and skills in music education, Joe is a member of the laboratory team at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
